  2. Chapter 1 窶｢ About TCP/Connect II

TCP/Connect IIﾂｮ for Macintosh is a versatile software package for the Appleﾂｮ Macintoshﾂｮ that offers connectivity tools such as terminal emulation, file transfer, electronic mail, and USENET news. It implements several TCP/IP-based protocols including telnet, the File Transfer Protocol (FTP), the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), and the Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP). TCP/Connect II is available in four different editions.

  6. ﾂ            This manual is written for users who are familiar with basic
  7.             Macintosh operations. If you do not understand basic
  8.              interface concepts, such as using the mouse, opening files, or
  9.              copying files, please refer to the user guide that was
  10.              included with your Macintosh.

  12. ﾂ            Please complete the pre-addressed, postage-paid
  13.              registration card included in your TCP/Connect II package
  14.              and return it to InterCon Systems. Registering your copy of
  15.             TCP/Connect II for Macintosh entitles you to notifications of
  16.             upgrades, product announcements, and technical support.
  17.             Support and product upgrades are included for 90 days, and
  18.             are verified by your product serial number. For information
  19.             on support and upgrades after this period, contact the

  25. 1.1  What You Need

  27. This section covers the basic requirements of TCP/Connect II for Macintosh.

  30. 1.1.1  Hardware

  32. This section describes the basic hardware requirements of TCP/Connect II for Macintosh.

  34. TCP/Connect II requires the following hardware:
  35.  
  36. 窶｢ A Macintosh SE or later model
  37. 窶｢ 5 megabytes of RAM 
  38. 窶｢ An appropriate connection to your TCP/IP network if you plan
  39.      to use TCP/Connect II on a network. This includes LocalTalk,
  40.      Ethernet, Token Ring, Serial Line Internet Protocol (SLIP),
  41.      Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), or Fiber Distributed Data
  42.      Interface (FDDI).

  45. 1.1.2  Software

  47. This section describes the basic software requirements of TCP/Connect II for Macintosh.

  49. TCP/Connect II requires the following software:

  51. 窶｢ Macintosh System Software
  52.         You must have version 7 or later. InterCon strongly
  53.       recommends that you use the most recent system version
  54.       available. 
  55. 窶｢ Hardware Drivers 
  56.         If you are using an Ethernet device, install the driver software
  57.      provided by the manufacturer and select the proper settings in
  58.      the Network configuration panel.

  60. ﾂ            Hardware drivers are not required for serial connections or
  61.              if you are using TCP/Connect II without a network
  62.              connection.

  68.         To use electronic mail, the following are required on your server
  69.       computer:
